What is the relationship between a Member and a Repository?
A DataCite Direct Member is a legal entity that joins DataCite as a consumer of DOI services. The Member is normally an organization that works with one or more repositories within their organization. The repository is a container under the same administrative structure as the organization. Each repository is a single unit with a corresponding DataCite Fabrica Repository account. DataCite links the Repository account to information in re3data, where additional repository metadata are available. The Repository account is also linked to the Repository Search in DataCite Commons.
In DataCite Systems there are different permissions for each type of account. Repository accounts are managed by Members and Consortium Organizations.
- Only Members and Consortium Organization accounts can create and manage Repository accounts.
- Only Repository accounts can create and manage DOIs.
