DataCite Training
DataCite training, developed by our team of experts, aims to help DataCite Members, Consortium Organizations and Repositories maximize the benefits of DataCite services. Each training module covers a different topic and includes detailed instruction and live demonstrations.
On this page, you can access training resources covering DataCite metadata, Fabrica, Commons, APIs and citations. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced user looking to gain more knowledge, you will find a training for you below.

Metadata
DataCite metadata is at the core of everything we do. Our metadata crash course, in two parts, covers the DataCite Metadata Schema, what actually happens to DOI metadata, and ways to improve connectedness using interoperable PIDs.
DataCite Metadata Training: Part 1
In the first part of this training you will learn about the DataCite Metadata Schema and what happens when you register metadata for a research output.

Citations in DataCite Metadata Training
This training focuses on citations in DataCite DOI metadata. You will learn how citations are represented in DataCite metadata and how repositories can start to include citation information using the relatedIdentifier property. We also explore how citation metadata can be viewed and harvested.

The DataCite Metadata Schema Through Time – RDA’s 10th Anniversary Event
This 1.5 hr training session will trace the history of the DataCite Metadata Schema and how it has evolved over time. In particular, it will focus on the relationship between DataCite and RDA, charting how community consensus and outputs from RDA IGs and WGs have influenced the development of the DataCite Metadata Schema and related services.
The session will provide an introduction to the DataCite Metadata Schema and highlight how it facilitates interoperability, with a deeper dive into related identifiers and SCHOLIX, the PID Graph, and persistent identifiers for instruments. The session will also inform how tools can be used to interact with DataCite services. Finally, the session ends by looking forward: what future developments there are for the DataCite Metadata Schema and our continued links to RDA through the Implementing FAIR Workflows Project and the recently approved Working with PIDs in Tools IG.
